Fiberglass structural products

Fiberglass Grating, Structural Shapes & Buildings

Cortrol supplies fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) structural products engineered for corrosion resistance, durability, and long service life in demanding industrial and process environments. Our structural offerings include grating, structural shapes, handrail and fencing systems, stair treads, trench drain systems, fiberglass buildings, and specialty products for water and wastewater treatment applications.

These non-metallic structural products replace steel, aluminum, and wood in environments where corrosion, chemical exposure, and harsh weather conditions cause traditional materials to deteriorate. Cortrol’s structural product line is supported by industry-leading manufacturers with proven track records in fiberglass design and fabrication.

Jacobs Manufacturing:

Fiberglass Buildings & Water Treatment Structures

For over 25 years, Jacobs Manufacturing has been producing fiberglass products for the water treatment industry. Cortrol supplies Jacobs products for applications requiring corrosion-resistant enclosures, flow measurement structures, and water treatment accessories.

Jacobs Manufacturing products available through Cortrol include:

  • Fiberglass buildings: available in sizes from 3’x3’x7′ to 16’x20’x7′, with 8′ high buildings also available. Buildings are built to customer specifications and provide a completely encapsulated thermal barrier for protection against heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, salt spray, and dust.
  • Chlorine buildings: a specialty of Jacobs Manufacturing, designed to protect chlorination equipment in water treatment facilities.
  • Pump covers and fiberglass doors: enclosures for pumps, electrical gear, field-mounted equipment, and other outdoor equipment requiring weather and corrosion protection.
  • Water treatment structures: troughs, weir plates, scum baffles, stop logs, slide gates, Parshall flumes, Palmer-Bowlus flumes, cut-throat flumes, and fiberglass for steel buildings.

These fiberglass products are lightweight, easy to install, corrosion resistant, and maintenance free, making them well suited for water and wastewater treatment environments.

Kentec Composites:

FRP Grating, Structural Shapes & Access Systems

Kentec Composites was founded in 1998 and has become an industry leader in the manufacturing and fabrication of fiberglass reinforced plastic structural products for industrial, commercial, and residential use.

Kentec Composites products available through Cortrol include:

  • Molded FRP grating: integrally molded grating with bi-directional load carrying capability. High resin content provides chemical corrosion resistance and fire retardancy. Covered grating options add a solid surface to prevent items from falling through the panel grid.
  • Pultruded FRP grating: high-strength unidirectional grating with greater load carrying capability on larger spans. Fire resistant and chemical resistant options are available.
  • Structural shapes: standard pultruded profiles including angles, I-beams, wide flange beams, channels, and tube. Custom profile capabilities are also available.
  • Handrails, stair treads, and caged ladders: complete access systems for industrial platforms, elevated walkways, and corrosive environments.

Kentec’s facilities are ISO 9001:2008 certified. Additional approvals and standards include ABS, USDA Approvable, U.S. Coast Guard Level 2, and compliance with VGBA, ADA, OSHA, IBC, and UBC requirements.

Strongwell:

Pultruded & Molded FRP Grating, Structures & Handrail

Strongwell has been manufacturing fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) products using the pultrusion process since 1956 and is recognized as the world’s leading and largest pultruder of FRP. Cortrol supplies Strongwell products for structural applications requiring corrosion resistance, impact resistance, and low maintenance.

Strongwell products available through Cortrol include:

  • DURAGRATE® molded grating: integrally molded fiberglass grating with bi-directional load carrying capability, suitable for platforms, walkways, and corrosive service areas.
  • DURADEK® and DURAGRID® pultruded grating: high-strength pultruded grating options for applications requiring longer spans and higher unidirectional load capacity.
  • DURATREAD™ stair tread covers: molded fiberglass stair tread covers with a gritted, slip-resistant surface designed for installation over concrete, metal, wood, or fiberglass steps.
  • Handrail and fencing systems: corrosion-resistant FRP handrail, guardrail, and fencing for industrial platforms, walkways, and safety barriers.
  • Fabricated structures: Strongwell fabricates beam, column, and plate structures, all-fiberglass buildings using foam core panels, platforms, decking, and custom assemblies. Their fabrication capability is supported by registered professional structural engineers experienced in FRP design.

All Strongwell gratings are manufactured in the U.S.A.

Technical Support & System Integration

Selecting the right structural product for a corrosive or industrial environment requires consideration of:

  • Load requirements and span distances
  • Chemical exposure and corrosion conditions
  • Fire retardancy requirements
  • Code and compliance standards (ADA, OSHA, IBC)
  • Installation method and site constraints

Cortrol provides guidance to help match structural products with your application requirements and ensure compatibility with your broader corrosion-resistant system.

Structural FAQs

Cortrol supplies fiberglass grating (molded and pultruded), structural shapes, handrail and fencing systems, stair treads, trench drain systems, fiberglass buildings, and water treatment structures such as weir plates, baffles, flumes, and slide gates.

Cortrol partners with Strongwell, Kentec Composites, and Jacobs Manufacturing, each an established manufacturer of fiberglass structural and building products for industrial and water treatment applications.

Molded grating is manufactured as a one-piece panel with bi-directional load carrying capability, making it well suited for platforms and areas with loads from multiple directions. Pultruded grating features high-strength unidirectional construction that supports longer spans and higher load capacity in the primary direction.

FRP structural shapes are pultruded fiberglass profiles such as angles, I-beams, wide flange beams, channels, and tube that serve as non-metallic alternatives to steel structural members in corrosive environments.

Yes. Cortrol provides technical guidance to help match grating type, structural shapes, and building configurations with your load, chemical, code, and installation requirements.

FRP structural products are used in chemical processing, water and wastewater treatment, power generation, pulp and paper, mining, food and beverage, and other industrial environments where corrosion resistance and low maintenance are required.

Yes. Jacobs builds fiberglass buildings to customer specifications in a range of sizes. Chlorine buildings for water treatment applications are a specialty.
